2200 Westlake vs.....the other condos. Part I

Have you ever wondered what other Seattle condo dwellers think about the 2200 complex?

I haven't. In fact...I don't really care what they think.

But...out of curiosity I decided to check out a few other buildings to see how we compare.

Sure...we have had a grand 'ol time poking fun at the place we call home but shouldn't we be poking fun at the other condos also? I figure that we can give Vulcan a break on this one. After all...Enso and Rollins aren't even built yet. Their day will come and come hell or high water I'll find a way to tour those buildings (incognito of course).

So let's take this one building at a time.

2200 vs. Bellora

The Bellora seems to be one of the more highly regarded buildings downtown. In fact, some So Cal Flipper thought so much of it that he decided to try to flip one of the two penthouses in the building....and let me tell you...it's one of the cooooolest units in all of Seattle.

I wasn't able to tour the penthouse however...but just a little FYI for ya...I saw it listed on foreclosure.com (currently listed in pre-foreclosure status). So much for that flip...I mean flop. Ooooops. Talk about a multi-million$ f*ck-up!

I did take a look at another unit in the building however.

One thing that the Bellora listings seem to gloat about is their concrete countertops. Well...let me tell you...the one I saw SUCKED. It already had tiny cracks in it (like a cheap driveway) just waiting to harbor bacteria from whatever slop the future owner will try to prepare on it. The unit itself had a "rode hard and put away wet" look to it as the floors were scuffed, the stainless was all a bit dingy looking and well...it just wasn't very nice IMHO. Nothing special what-so-ever. Even the buildings lobby seemed a bit "dark" for my tastes. Many (if not most) of the units in Bellora don't have decks and the ones that do on the west facing side of the building have the privilege of staring at a bunch of ugly radar dishes (or satellite...whatever) that have to be the one of the bigger eyesores downtown. I'll take the view of the big yellow lottery billboard any day over those things thank you very much! (even though the lottery is really just a tax on people that are bad at math)

Round One Winner....

2200!

Next up....Concord.

I like the looks of the 2200 buildings. I have never been inside, but have seen photos and they look nice. Hopefully all of the little things have been taken care of and people are happy living there.

Hey Econ,

This should generate some lively discussion is the other building residents get wind of your comparisons. Personally, I think all the little issues here at 2200 are getting taken care of. The community is coming together and I for one have no buyers regret at all. I love the lifestyle here and look forward to many more years.

Fellow resident...

Yes...I also think that things appear to be running smoothly here at 2200. I don't think that there should be any buyer regrets among owners although I'm pretty sure that there are some regrets by the flippers...and possibly some banks in the future.

I somehow doubt that we will actually get "lively" discussion as there are probably only about a dozen readers of this blog...if even that many.

It would be pretty funny however if they tried to come in here and knock us off our pedestal.

Bottom line is that we know that we rock! We know that we have the services and amenities that every other building wishes they had. We know this place is "the Sh#t" and IMHO there isn't another complex downtown that I'd rather live in.

Period.

I mean seriously...doesn't it say something that I chose this complex even being such a obnoxious loudmouthed critic?

I always enjoy your posts econ-e. 12 readers of your blog are probably 12 more than I have. A word of warning, though. Be careful of taking on the Concord. I don't live there, but I can tell you it is a very nice building and serious competition.
